History of Oris began more than a century ago in 1904. In a very short time the company became very famous owing to its accurate and luxuriously designed mechanical timepieces.
In 1960-s the company was recognized as one of the best Swiss manufacturers.
In 1970′s the epoch of quartz watches started, however, the company went on creating and releasing best quality mechanical watches. 1970′s were marked by a great number of novelties, and one of the greatest of these was production of the first mechanical chronograph in collaboration with Dubois Depaz that is known in the whole world for its high quality movements.
In 1980s, in spite of enormous success of quartz watches, the company concentrated on production of mechanical wristwatches with non-standard movements.
One of the greatest novelties of 1980′s is a limited edition of truly brilliant mechanical timepieces with alarm clock.
In 1991 Oris produced the Complication model. Though the watch is complicated and multifunctional, it is much cheaper than one could think. There are so useful functions as day of week, date and moon phase.
In 1997 the great Worldtimer watch with two time zones was presented. For more than three years designers from Oris had been developing this fantastic timekeeper. Like any other wristwatch by Oris, this one is reasonably priced, in spite of its best quality and complications.
1999 was marked by development of the Feull Steel Pointer Day watch model that has an additional hand for day of week. The watch has little additional seconds dial at the 9 o’clock position.
In 2000 Oris developed its XXL collection that soon got enormous success. This collection consists of four cute watch models that come in a number of sizes.
In 2003 Oris offered the TT1 wristwatch – a truly great wristwatch for divers that is waterproof to 1000 m.
One more great Diver model was offered in this year – this is the Great Barrier Reef Diver watch. This stainless steel timekeeper features a case that measures 47 mm in diameter. Water resistance of the wristwatch does astonish – the watch is waterproof to 1000 m. The wristwatch features helium valve as well as anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The heart of the timepiece is the the highest quality ETA 2895 movement with 42 hour power reserve. Fifty francs from each timepiece sold is donated to the Australian Marine Conservation Society.
